Stephen Ministry is named for Saint Stephen, who was the first layperson commissioned to provide
caring service to those in need. Stephen Ministers are provided with 50 hours of training and
then matched with someone in the parish who needs quality ongoing care in a crisis situation.
Some of the situations in which Stephen Ministers provide care include the loss of a loved one, divorce,
a terminal illness, loneliness, unemployment, a spiritual crisis and the birth of a child.
